i just finished re-reading sounder.

this is a book that meant a lot to me as a boy, and i picked it up in singapore on a shopping trip to get books for my older daughter. the english-language selection here in berlin leaves a lot to be desired.

it’s always interesting to go back and read books that had a big impact on your life, to see if they still do, or how things may have changed. re-reading it was as sad as reading it the first time, but that’s what makes the book so powerful – the sadness. it teaches a valuable but difficult lesson, that people lose things in life.
