I haven't written a book, but I've worked in the field. The more I learn of editors, press and agents, I'm happy to be a working writer without a book. It really is worth getting started though. There's plenty of resources that outline how to do it, but it's pretty simple. Find a voice, develop your world (gonna assume yr not writing beach fiction), make your characters as real as possible, let 'em loose on tightly wound plot. ex libris you.

@Josiecat, thanks for the comment. it's a work of fiction that i have in mind. i just discussed with a friend who did write a book, and i think that was valuable input as well. i'm hoping to get started soon.

On thinking about writing a book. There's a lot of good places to start. The first is by taking notes when the idea you are thinking about crosses your mind. As it takes shape, tool it and decide what format its going to take. Is it an essay, fiction, non-fiction, etc? Having plenty of notes and a clear vision of the final product - a good place to start. Advice really depends on what part of the process you are in. Thinking about virtual worlds and writing is something I spend a lot of time doing, but I'm always operating as ethnographer. Good luck!
